I am sorry that I will not be to attend the Celebration of Life. As a past Commanding Officer and Honorary Colonel of the SD&G Highlanders (little guy on the right), I had a number of occasions to be with John. A great day was when he invited me to The Farm.

I am so sad for the passing of my cousin. He was always there for me when I needed help. He introduced me to my husband John Barker which changed my life. We have happy memories of times spent at the farm and going to gun shows. We are a small family , Sarah and Rachel are very special to me. I will miss him

I was12 when I first met my older cousin John. I belive he would have been 18 yrs at the time. Place Edmonton shortly after my mother, his aunt Betty had passed.
John stayed in my room. He immediately became my hero. A ranking he holds title to this day. Though I admit over the years I added certain adjetives to his rank. Strange, excentric, being but two of many.
I spent two days following him through every pawnshop in the city. I was with him when he discovered a colt six shooter. Upon questioning the shrewd shop onwner John realized the owner had misidentified the fire arm .
The pawn broker was asking half the real value. Financied by his Father, my uncle Jack, John and I returned the next day.
I watched John talk haggle the bewildered shop keeper down another $50. Young John Charles walked out with a gun whose listed value was $700 _ $1000. John paid $300. My hero indeed. Brian

Ever since I walked into John’s store on Greene Avenue in Westmount in 1971, I’ve had the absolute privilege to get to know John and Sam as dear friends.
I deeply miss our conversations, John, but I do know I’ll see you soon enough to continue them!!!
My deepest condolences to the whole family……
Most sincerely,
Ed Gamble
