Obituary of Donald Charles McKeen

McKeen, Donald Charles Veteran WWII – Royal Canadian Navy Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the age of 95. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Marjorie Patricia McKeen (née Davis). Loving father of Donna (Kent), Linda Murray (Blaz) and Bradford McKeen (Lisa). Proud grandfather of Karen (Brent); Julie (Jeff) and their children Chloe and Fletcher; and Mariko, Jordan and their families. He will also be fondly remembered by close family friend, Eleanor Barnes. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Growing up in Saskatchewan, Don played hockey for the Notre Dame Hounds, before joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941. While in the navy, Don became interested in refrigeration and after his discharge in Montreal he enrolled in the Veteran School of Technology which was the start of his life career. He worked for many large refrigeration companies before moving to Ottawa to become his own boss and finally opening D.C. McKeen Limited - Refrigeration and Heating Wholesale. Don met his wife Marjorie in Montreal and they were married May 31, 1946. Family and friends are invited to visit the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Byron) on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 1 - 2 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2 pm. A reception will follow. Memorial Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
