To Amanda and family, my deepest sympathy and condolences on your loss of RIchard. I will always remember the conversations I had with Richard at the kitchen table when I was his farm insurance advisor. Although at first, I wondered if we would ever 'connect', over the next 8 years, I truly got to know the man and his love for family and agriculture, the history of his house, the shortcomings of agriculture programs and most importantly, I saw a of a man concerned for those whom life had thrown obstacles at. We will remember Richard as a family man, farmer, Christian, and friend. Though a bit quiet at times, Richard was always ready to talk about his family and their achievements. His farm operation was so much bigger than ours, yet I had enough farm background to follow his explanations in agriculture. He loved to talk about the Christian faith - even details of doctrine interested him. His interest in reaching out to the poor through our Bright Hope Mission was commendable. Though living in different communities, Richard and Amanda were friends and we will be praying for the Lord's comfort and strength during this time.

Rick was quite a character and made me laugh on numerous occasions when I was a square dancing beginner with the Swinging Bs Cornwall. My deepest condolences to the Hoekstra family. Wow it's was a shock to find this out this morning. He was a sweet man with a stubborn side to him but a great landlord.
