Obituary of Theresa Ryan

My mother, Theresa Ryan, at the age of age 92, formerly of Stephenville, Newfoundland passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022 with Patricia and Mike holding her hands. Mom was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and volunteer. She was a cheerleader for everything Newfoundland. She was always up for a game of golf, supporting tournaments at Harmon Golf Club, and golf clubs around the island. She and Dad loved the Curling Club and the social life that it provided. Mom and Dad loved travelling the world. They enjoyed visits to Europe, New Zealand, Australia, the Caribbean but most of all they loved visiting us, other family members and good friends. Mom and Dad visited Holland several times to celebrate Liberation Day and to see the lovely people that Dad bunked with during the war. Remembrance Day and supporting the Royal Canadian Legion were very important to them. Mom loved engaging in both Federal and Provincial politics. She reveled in many a political campaign, enjoying every minute! Mom loved seeing friends and having the opportunity to pour a cup of coffee and have a long chat. Mom was a teacher, then she worked in Finance at the United States Earnest Harmon Air Force Base and then years later she was a Social Assistance Worker with the Department of Social Services. There were many a Christmas Eve that Mom spent driving around delivering food and gifts to the families that she supported, to ensure that they had a beautiful Christmas. Mom was preceded in death by her beloved Pat, her parents John and Florence Cashin, Her sister Marie Gaultois (Michael), brother David Cashin (Theresa) and sister Marguerite. She is also predeceased by her in-laws James and Marguerite Ryan, her sister-in-law Florence Ryan and brother-in law James Ryan. Mom is survived by me, Patricia, and my husband Mike, our children Alex, Kyle (Michelle), Cory (Lucy) and Tyler and her two great grandchildren Tessa-Rose and Eddison. Mom leaves to mourn her brother-in-law Frank Ryan (Sylvia), and sister-in-law Ruby Ryan and Betty and Alice Gabriel. Mom is survived by her nieces and nephews: Robert Gaultois (Kerry), Judy Burke (Rick), Cathy Gaultois (David), Florence McDougald (Johnny), Donald Gaultois (Paulette) Jacqueline Young, Kenny Cashin (Linda), Rene (Edwena), Michael (Elayne) and DJ (Ann Marie), Susan Sommerville (Hugh), Michael (Elayne), David James ( Ann Marie), Denise Downton, (Scott) and Maureen. Mom also is survived by a close-knit group of friends and family including Valerie Dorillo and Gabriel Jarvie Easton. Mom moved to Ontario in 2016. She loved living at Garden Villa in Chesterville and Russell Meadows before finally to Maxville Manor in 2021. There are no words to describe the incredible support that Mom has received. We are incredibly grateful to all of the staff for your kindness, support and caring during Mom’s journey with vascular dementia. Our gratefulness extends to our friends and family who have been there every step of the way. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Maxville Manor Foundation, 80 Mechanic Street W, Maxville Ontario K0C1TO, or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 35, Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador.
