Obituary of Gary Laffin
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Lester Laffin, age 70, of East Walton, passed away at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge Nursing Home in Cornwall, Ontario, Sunday, July 23, 2023 with his daughter by his side.
Gary was born on June 25, 1953 in Pembroke, Nova Scotia to Samuel “Lester” and Mildred “Louise” (Wheaton) Laffin.
After graduating high school, Gary started working in the road construction industry, remaining a loyal and dedicated employee for nearly 40 years.
Gary is survived by his loving daughter, Amanda (Bernard) Haley and his son, Garrett (Natasha) Brooks; his grandchildren Autumn, Markus, Olivia and Logan; his sisters Lois (Robert) Carr, Kimberly (Randy) Latter and Jackie Ray; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary loved many sports, but his all-time favourite was hockey. He could often be found watching Hockey Night in Canada cheering on the Canadiens (and occasionally the Maple Leafs) with things getting extra loud if a fight broke out between some of his favourite enforcers. When he wasn’t working or watching hockey, he could usually be found playing crokinole, cribbage, or other games with his family.
He was a quiet man, but he loved a good kitchen party with his family and close friends, always eager for someone to grab their guitar and play a song or two.
The family will greet close friends and family from 11AM to 2PM on August 5th at the Tennecape Community Hall. A graveside service will be held at the Tennecape Cemetery at 3PM for his immediate family only.
His daughter would like to extend her gratitude to the staff at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge in Cornwall, specifically those of the 2nd Floor Cornwall unit for their compassion, attentiveness and loving care.
